I could’ve folded her up, stuck her in my pocket and taken her home with me. Everything about this session was perfect and flowed so naturally. Okay…minus the very dark clouds outside. I had another one of those “aaww” moments when I just wanted to stop and soak in the moment with them. The love in their home is so strong. How can it not be when you have a perfect little angel like Miss M and such loving parents!?! I am so sad that they are moving…excited for them though. I did mention that they were welcome to fly me to their soon to be new home, but I don’t think they were going for it. I mean…I don’t know why. lol.

Quirky is good. I love quirky. Maybe it’s because I’m a little quirky myself, but I love it. I think it’s the fact that someone is free to be. Just be. I don’t know, but it seems like quirky is COOL now. Thanks to movies like Juno and 500 Days of Summer. Or maybe it’s because I think I’m cool so it MUST be cool…right. Either way…I love. But if quirky is cool and popular it can no longer be called “quirky”? Hhhmm…a little something for you to ponder. Anywho…

Miss J is down right awesome. I loved everything about her. Her very funky style, her cute little accessories, her love for music, her willingness to admit she has no musical talent, her willingness to follow me into a creepy junk yard, her love for life that just beams, and even her little bit of shyness in front of the camera. Oh…and you guessed it…her quirkiness! I loved her so much that I absolutely couldn’t narrow down her sneak peek pictures. So, enjoy! xoxo to you Miss J! Thank you thank you!

When I said this couple could do anything they put their mind to, I was right. It was proven again when I visited last week and met little Mr.A. Parents for just over a week and they already seemed like pros. I adore being with families during this time. Every family is different. Some are happy, but stressed beyond measure. Some are just simply at peace (or hiding the stress very well). I love observing this and being in the mist of it. Often there are moments when I get the “at peace” feeling along with them. Those moments where you want to just breathe it all in. Rarely do I feel a family so “at peace” as this one. Don’t get me wrong, I am often surprised at how well my clients handle everything…especially me being up in their space and moving their little one all about, but there was just something different. Of course, they were stressed. They were sleep deprived. Let me tell you, despite those things, they had it down. They approached everything as “I got this”. I truly enjoyed every moment of it. Mr A was just so good for me. I have to admit, there were even a couple moments that I got all choked up behind the camera. Observing their relationship and bond. Nothing but pure, undconditional love here. Their house could burst with it…as well as the amazing light that streams through everywhere!

Another part that got me was at the very end of the session. We were sitting around chatting (sometimes I just can’t shut up!) and they mentioned getting a book from me for every year of Mr.A’s life, including his Senior pictures. I know I haven’t talked about all the things I love about photography yet, but I’ll give you a hint, this is number one. I have actually gotten teary (yeah…I’m a softy) talking about this very thing with Bret. The thought of forming these relationships and watching these children grow up. It’s truly such an honor to me. That’s why I wouldn’t do photography any other way than I do right now. I’m not simply taking a few pictures and that’s it. In most cases I’m forming relationships, making new friendships. All while recording your life moments and showing the art in your life. Wow…I so sound like a Halmark card right now, but…oh well…I mean it!

I’m going to call little Mr. C here my firecracker. He certainly kept me on my toes and I absolutely loved every minute of it! One of the things I love about photographing children is that they are true. They are themselves and that’s it. I know so many parents try to get their kiddos to “behave” during a session (which I completely understand and appreciate), but I say let them be. Well, as long as they’re not fighting or kicking me. lol. I think I wore my firecracker out as much as I was worn out. Another thing I love about kiddos, you know when they’re done. And isn’t he adorable!?! I was completely in love with his lashes and hair!

Then sweet little Ms. M. Oh my…just look at those eyes. I could absolutely squeeze her cheeks (I try to refrain from this because I don’t want kiddos to think of me like great aunt sally who squeezes cheeks and wipes dirt off their face with spit. You don’t know how many times I am very tempted to squeeze little chunky cheeks.) She was just so sweet. Just kept checking me out. Not sure what the strange lady with the camera thought she was doing up in her personal space

T family…thank you thank you for allowing me to see just a glimpse of your life. I hope to see many more. And momma…sorry for talking your leg off after I think I may have met another one of those clients that I could just talk to forever.

monthly minis | Priscilla Baierlein Photography {Central KY Child & Family Photographer}

I’ve been meaning to blog this forever! With the first Monthly Mini Session date fastly approaching (March 20th!), now may be a good time to do that! There are only 2 spots remaining for the March minis!

That’s right! Our very popular mini sessions that are normally offered twice a year, are now being offered once a month! Now you’ll have the option of a Signature Session or a Monthly Mini Session. These Mini Sessions will be held in various locations in Central KY (one set location per session) on set dates.

The very first date being March 20th and the popular Boyd’s Orchard minis on April 24th.
Of course, Signature Sessions will remain the ultimate custom photography experience. It’s hard to believe, but spring sessions are already booking up! Internship/Assistant Opportunity | Priscilla Baierlein Photography {Central KY Child and Family Photographer}

That’s right! I’m seeking a fabulous intern/assistant to work w/ me in my lovely home. Intern will assist w/ placing, packaging, and delivering orders; entering client information and maintaining client folders; backing up session images; creating client galleries and possibly slideshows; additional tasks as needed; and mostly keep me from going crazy and talking to myself constantly.

I’m looking for someone who’s:

available monday-thursday, anywhere from 5-15 hours a week (schedule will be flexible and hours will vary, closer to 5 hours a week during slow times and more during busier times)
reliable
organized
quick learner
strong computer skills
familiarity w/ excel, html, photoshop, and graphic design a plus
a lover of photographs, music, smiles, and all things cheesy, also a plus

Please note that this is not a paid position, but is for those looking for college internship opportunities, high school co-ops, photography/photoshop lessons (I absolutely don’t know everything there is to know about either, but am happy to share what I do know), print credit and a free session per year.

Since a post would not be complete without pictures, this gives me a great chance to share a session from last year that I wasn’t able to. One of my favorites. Now that I’m *old* I had my 10 year high school reunion in October. It was so wonderful to see friends who meant so much to my life. It was even better when I had a session with a couple of said friends. Spencer and Gretchen. A couple who’s names, to anyone who know them, go together like Romeo and Juliet, Ozzie and Harriett, Fred and Wilma, and Peanut Butter and Jelly. Everyone knew they would end up together, get married, and have beautiful babies. Oh, I was so happy to see them again and meet beautiful little Adelyn. I only wish I had stopped at maybe two glasses of wine at the reunion. The time just went by too fast. These pictures make me so happy. One more thing…Gretchen is an amazing artist! First I have to apologize to those who subscribe to my blog and receive it through email. Don’t you love meeting those people who can really do anything they set their mind to? I honestly don’t think I’ve met anyone as talented as D. I didn’t realize just how talented until I made it to their home. Let’s see…both D and A are engineers; D decorates cakes and is VERY VERY good at it; she has quite the photographic eye; she had a large role in designing their amazing kitchen from scratch; and not to mention the beautiful interior design in their home. I’m sure there’s many many more that I didn’t learn of that day, but I have to say, I was very impressed. Especially when I left with four yummy cupcakes and told that I should let her know when I need a chocolate fix (Can I put you on speed dial?)

{Insert subliminal message to all clients to have cupcakes for me at every session.}

I’m sure little Mr. A is going to be so talented like his momma and dad. He will be here so soon and everyone can finally find out what his name will be. I love that D and A have kept his name a secret. Friends and family know it will start with an A, but that’s it. I feel so privileged that I know! I may be able to be bribed…

Thank you D and A for having me in your home and being so open to my ideas…even the ones that involved you going out into the freezing snow!

Beautiful. Brave. Warm heart. I couldn’t ask for more in a maternity session. I loved the way they were completely open to my ideas and style. My favorite parts were their love and her laugh. Flipping through the images I quickly notice that my favorites are of C laughing. That’s when she was in her element. Oh and when they were together. Wow, wow, wow. Any couple who has had a session with me knows I often ask to “whisper sweet nothings”. I always joke that you can talk about dinner if you want just as long as you’re close and enjoying yourself. These are ALWAYS my favorite images. I often get sweet loving laughs or what I call “I’m so in love with him” looks and sighs. Going through this session my heart just melted looking at these. The way B looks at her. You can tell how deep their love is. You can feel it.

So hard to choose the ones to show, but I’ve decided on some more tub shots Yes…these sessions the same day, but this shot was planned, the last one not so much. Once I learned how much C LOVES baths, I was even more happy we decided to do this.

See…can’t you almost hear how great her laugh is?

Thank you both for allowing me in your home! I can’t wait to meet baby girl!

Aren’t they gorgeous? And look at his hair! The S family was so very patient with me when it came to their maternity photos, I couldn’t dream of making them wait too long for a sneak peek of newborn photos. This is another one of those families that I just *click* (no pun intended) with. Another one of those families that I have trouble leaving because I’m just talking too much. It’s hard when I have a heater and noise machine in my ear and can’t hear anything, especially when I just want to talk talk talk while I shoot

I am so excited to be back to shooting and back to blogging sneak peeks! Hope you enjoy!

Grab a snack and sit back…this is a long one! There may be a little gift at the end. As I’m finally getting use to writing 2010 on my checks, I think back to 2009 and reflect on the good, the bad, and the plain ol ugly. It was my first full year as a full time professional photographer. It seems like things have moved so fast. Sometimes I feel like I’ve made every mistake one could possibly make in one year. But with every mistake, I’ve kicked and screamed and thrown my hands up in the air I’ve learned. I’ve grown. It doesn’t hurt that I have the most amazingly patient clients ever. They have allowed me to figure this crazy thing out (not that I have…or if that’s even possible). There were days that I felt lost and days that I felt I had it all together. In the end, I know my clients better, I know my business better, and I know myself better. Realizing along the way that the best way to do anything is stay true to yourself. I know…it sounds so cheesy, but it’s true. No matter what, I want to share. Share who I am. Share my love for photography. Share in your special moments. Share in your little moments. Share what I see. Share all those things that make your family unique. This is something that has not changed from the beginning and will not change. My main goal will always be to capture a moment. One of the things I missed out on this past year was the sharing of me to you. I got so busy and so wrapped up in our life and the business that I didn’t connect as much as I would like. So, here I am. I know…you’re so excited right? Woot woot!

Now for a few of my favorite MOMENTS that I have been wanting to share.

First…The Pings…This family is one of my favorites. I love their style, each of their personalities, and that I’ve been with them since Abby was 1. I love watching them grow. I love that Scott gets so excited that he will email me or facebook me a million times asking, but he immediately makes up for it when he posts their slideshow a million times. And I mostly love that little miss Abby drew me a pretty picture before our last session. FYI…I still have it up (I keep everything “my” kiddos give me).

Second…I know I’ve already talked all about this, but I can’t talk about most memorable moments without at least showing this one more time…

Third…this is from OCTOBER! I was suppose to share it way back then, but of course time got away from me. I was beyond thrilled when Skirt contacted little ol me to be featured in their “Secrets” issue. My “secret” was taking the perfect picture of your child. I actually had MY picture taken by the fabulous Carla Winn (before they moved to Seattle ). FYI…I am much more suited for being BEHIND the camera. Another quick little factoid about me…I LOVE jean jackets. I own 3. Yeah…it’s sad.
