Hi, there, my sweet friends! It’s been so long since I’ve regularly posted on this sweet little blog of mine. I miss it. I’ll be honest, when my mind gets overwhelmed, I narrow it all down to the bare essentials. Lots of things happen to be bare essentials in my mind, but blogging somehow gets booted out. Lots of things have been happening around here (including working with a business coach and being a part of a mastermind) and I know blogging is going back on the “essentials” list. Let’s have some fun on this blog again. Shall we? I’ll be posting some of my favorite sessions that haven’t been shared yet, along with some fun things to help you prepare for your family photos.

I get asked so often, especially here lately, “when do I need to book my session?” The answer is simple…

Book your family photo session as soon as you can.

Seriously. As soon as you think about it, you go ahead and contact your favorite photographer (eager little photographer typing raises her hand way in the air) and get on their schedule. Of course, all photographers are different. But, for me, booking early is best.

Why should you book your family photo session as soon as you can?

  • To get the best pick of dates and times (especially if your family is busy, this will help you get a date that works best with your schedule instead of having to bend your schedule to fit the session date).

  • To ensure you are able to get a session with the photographer you love. Many photographers, like myself, only take on a certain number of sessions each month. Sometimes that number isn’t as high as you would think because of all the work it takes on the back end. Each season has it’s own thing that may make a photographer book up quicker. Fall, for instance, is busy for most all photographers.

  • If money is on your mind, you are able to save, as well as, make payments along the way.

  • You have more time to prepare or dream up fun things your family can do during your session.

  • Christmas gifts. Seriously…I have clients in the summer who use their pictures for Christmas gifts. I use pictures from all throughout the year for gifts and on my Christmas cards (when I actually get them out). There are some photographers who do their holiday sessions closer to December, but most I know tend to do them in the fall. Doing a session in the fall (or sooner) that you want to use for holiday gifts gives you and your photographer plenty of time to edit the images, get them to you, get your order in, and process the order.

Wanna book your fall family session with me? Here’s a little schedule update…

spring session update | central ky family photographer {priscilla baierlein photography}

spring|summersessions.jpg

Oh, sweet friends…can I tell you how absolutely excited I am that it’s actually SPRING!?! I have little tiny pepper and cabbage babies growing in milk jugs…there is sunshine…and warmth…and the trees have started blooming. I mean…Bret’s allergies aren’t thankful, but my heart sure is! Which means it’s also time for Spring & Summer minis! The calendar opened up at the end of last year, and many spots were booked…let’s book up the rest! This is going to be the best year yet and I cannot wait to see so many of your beautiful faces!

These sessions are meant to be fun and truly capture your love for one another. That is all you have to do…be yourself and take the time to love that sweet and wild family of yours. So many snuggles and so much laughter happens. Sometimes it feels a bit chaotic and fast with bits of sweet snuggles in between. Worry about your kiddos sitting still for photos? Perfect…they don’t need to! This is about them being themselves and us capturing all that wild beautiful love!

You can read more about sessions HERE.

feast and farm and laughter and love | lancaster ky family lifestyle photographer

I’m just gonna first say, I’ve typed big long text to go with this blog about my dear friend’s session twice and lost it twice! Oh…goodness. I fear it may not be meant to be. If you’re seeing this, it means this is my third time typing this sweet post, but it’s finally out and I am celebrating with a little happy dance.

This was her bucket list photoshoot. She had dreamed of it for years. A lifestyle family session on their farm that over looks the rolling hills of central KY, their home. She wanted to show her family exactly as they are. She cried when she was filling out the session questionnaire and going into detail about what she wanted to remember about her family and what she wanted her kiddos to remember about their childhood. But she worried they would be stiff in front of the camera. Put on their fake smiles. She almost had me worried too. I prayed, as I usually do before each session, that I would be able to see their family and capture them in a way that they could see too. You know what happened? We all laughed almost the entire time. Not a fake smile to be seen.

She shines light and love and joy, especially when she’s with her family. She’s a friend who supports me and kicks me in the butt when I need it, brings me eggs and honey and plants and seeds and yummy yummy homemade food from time to time. Did I mention she’s a food blogger and photographer? {Feast and Farm}

I watched as he looked at her and I could tell he saw her for the light that she is. He saw just how funny she is, how strong she is, how important she is. She looked at him and I knew they were just as, or more, in love than ever. They are best friends and true partners. She’s as much a farmer as he is and so supportive of the difference he makes in the lives of others. He supports her in this crazy dream of being a food blogger and farmer and superhero mom and wife at the same time. I am seriously constantly amazed by all she does. They are such strong, loving, examples for their kiddos. I watched as they all laughed and snuggled together in a field just in front of the home they built together. She took her sweet baby boys face in her hands and they giggled as they got nose to nose. She wrapped her arms around her oldest and soaked in the cuddles as they come less and less as the years move on. I watched as J swelled with love and devotion as he loved on each member of his family. They took turns cuddling up together then went inside for a quick change. C showed me her crafts and L showed me his prized toy gun (it was a stick before that) with the beautiful golden light coming in behind. I watched as they took pride in making biscuits with their momma. They each filled with glee as they swung high on their tree swing. We walked just a bit down their gravel drive to see if we could see any of their cattle. The took an adventure into their summer garden. Finally they all loved and snuggled in the tall grass, in the setting sun, with the KY hills behind.

It was my turn for tears as I left that day. I felt as I do so often with family sessions. Full of love, joy, and knowing that I saw them…really saw who they are…they opened up and showed me their love. When R saw her dream session for the first time she said “this is us”. That is the greatest compliment I could receive.

So much love,

Cilla

At Home and Keeneland with the C family | Priscilla Baierlein Photography {Lexington, KY lifestyle family photographer}

She closed her eyes and breathed it all in. The way it felt to be snuggled in her mommas arms. It took my breath away. Her momma soaked in the snuggles and gave sweet little kisses upon her cheek. This is what love looks like. He was so grown from the first time I saw him as a newborn. He now had a room with hand drawn signs on the door. He loves making books…just like my sweet boy. He’s so big, but loves that he got to jump on the bed, loves being tickled, and, mostly, loves his momma and daddy’s snuggles. Jumping on the bed was a treat and they took full advantage. They jumped with so much pure joy. They made a family “sandwich” where they all piled on top and giggled until they couldn’t breathe. She would spin and spin and spin until she could barely stand. So free. Daddy snuck in sweet little kisses and played airplane with his baby girl while she sang “I believe I can fly!” They made daddy’s special popcorn and laughed with delight as the popcorn popped up out of the skillet and as the salt shaker twisted up and big rocks of salt fell into the bowl. They all devoured the popcorn…extra salt and all. Laura and Cory sat in their spots on the couch and held hands. She looked at him with all the love in her eyes I saw ten years ago. He smiled his great big smile and laughed a little at how it may be a little awkward with a camera in your face. The littles ran through the sprinklers, soaking in the last days of summer. I hope they always run through the sprinklers. {Side note: Grown ups, if you haven’t done this lately, just do it. You’ll thank me later!} A quick change and a quick drive lead us to Keeneland where they ran in the fields and snuggled and tickled and laughed in the golden light. She put her favorite little tutu on and silhouetted against the setting sun. It was perfect. More than I could’ve ever dreamed of when they emailed me for their first session ten years ago while I was still working another full time job. I could never foresee the beautiful sessions, the laughs, the long lunches that would happen over the years. Thankful. Always. Thankful.

p.s. I just sent out a newsletter yesterday with an update in my fall calendar. September, October and the very beginning of November are the best times to get images for the holidays. I have a few spots open in September and 8 in October. LET’S CHAT ABOUT YOUR FAMILY SESSION BY CLICKING HERE.

So much love,

Cilla
