family sunset session at talon winery & vineyard | lexington, ky

The sunset danced around us as the girls giggled the remaining light away. There was so much snuggling, laughing, twirling, and love. My heart nearly burst. With each moment, each click of the camera, I fell in love with them all over again. This session came after several years of trying to pin down a lake session. 2018 seemed to be the year that the lake session would finally happen until I made one of the biggest goofs I think I’ve ever made. How could this “seasoned pro” leave home without at least one fully charged battery?!? Yes…I’m going to admit it…I drove an hour before I realized it. Thirty minutes before the session. All of my batteries were dead. Completely dead. I always check my cameras before I leave, and I did check my memory cards, but somehow missed the flashing dead battery signal. I just about died right there. I called them nearly in tears. Y’all, how could I be so lucky to have client friends who dish out so much grace? I didn’t quite give myself so much grace, but I did drive home, immediately charge all my batteries, and turned on some netflix. Later we chatted and decided to go for a Talon sunset session (of course at no charge) and will try the lake again this year. It IS going to happen and I can’t wait. This entire session all I could think about is how much fun we are going to have at the lake.

These girls kept me absolutely cracking up the entire time. I am sure they fight like all siblings, but I didn’t see a bit of it. All I saw were two girls who made each other laugh…a lot…and loved each other fiercely. I loved how they attacked each other and their momma and daddy with hugs and kisses. G’s love is especially fierce and so is her personality. She could take you down with a great big G hug. B always makes me laugh because he LOVES… ;) …photos. One of my favorite memories of B is a session we had together when they were just a family of three and we were in the literal freezing cold. B was not happy. We were all freezing. But now, I laugh at just how perfect it was. It shows just how much he loves his family. S is such a good momma and I am so thankful to call her friend. She truly enjoys her girls and let’s their personalities shine. She lets them be. And, y’all, she is filled with so much grace and beauty.

I am so thankful they continue to choose me and trust me, year after year.

One last thing…I am in love with Talon Winery & Vineyard. Seriously. It’s where we had our wedding reception many years ago and I’ve loved it ever since. When we are choosing a location for family sessions I always love to shoot in my client friends homes, but I also love shooting in a big open field…especially at sunset.

So much love sweet friends,

Cilla

Oh, sweet friends…can I tell you how absolutely excited I am that it’s actually SPRING!?! I have little tiny pepper and cabbage babies growing in milk jugs…there is sunshine…and warmth…and the trees have started blooming. I mean…Bret’s allergies aren’t thankful, but my heart sure is! Which means it’s also time for Spring & Summer minis! The calendar opened up at the end of last year, and many spots were booked…let’s book up the rest! This is going to be the best year yet and I cannot wait to see so many of your beautiful faces!

These sessions are meant to be fun and truly capture your love for one another. That is all you have to do…be yourself and take the time to love that sweet and wild family of yours. So many snuggles and so much laughter happens. Sometimes it feels a bit chaotic and fast with bits of sweet snuggles in between. Worry about your kiddos sitting still for photos? 2019 goals | kentucky photographer and dreamer {Priscilla Baierlein Photography}

Hi, friend! I’m not sure if you know this about me, but I am a bit of a dreamer. I love to make big plans and to get organized with all the things related to those big plans. For the last three or so years I have taken the end of a year and the beginning of the next to really think about what it is I feel in my bones I’m called to. Where do I want to be when I’m 80? What do I want to say I have done? What goals can I set right now to help me get there one day? I love this time of year. I get out my Powersheets, my journals, my calendar, my favorite pen, my colorful markers and highlighters. I mean…it looks like an office supply store in my living room floor. I write down all the things and see how all the things can and will happen.

The problem? While I felt these things in my heart and knew they were what I felt pulled to, I don’t know if I ever really worked on my belief in myself. Instead, I would make all these plans and then, I was like Dory, I would just keep swimming…just keep going…but for me…it was just barely. Through the depression. Through the anxiety. Through the fears. I was swimming, but I was also fighting against the current.

Last year something big happened. I started to make a mind shift. I started to learn how and see how the “magic” combination for success is an unbreakable faith…a belief…a knowing paired with hard work and determination. Not only that, I found something that really truly helped with my depression and anxiety, which allows me to believe. When I visualize the end of this year, I know in my heart what can and will be when I pair together that faith and that determination.

My ultimate goal is to live a long and healthy life filled with moments where I have chosen love…where I am constantly connected to the one who created me and that still small voice…that light…inside me and I use that to guide me. I leave fear behind. I use the gifts that God has given to me to serve those I come into contact with. I want to love and serve big and loud.

My 2019 goals to get me there…

  • Grow in faith and a constant connection to God and that still small voice.

    How (my mini goals):

    1. Begin and end my days with gratitude.

    2. Attend and be active in our church.

    3. Read the Bible daily.

    4. Pray with Steff.

    5. Keep the Sabbath.

    6. Create a gratitude routine with my family.

  • Cultivate healthy, sustainable habits to grow a healthy life…physically and mentally. (I feel like I would be a fraud if I didn’t mention that I am writing this while drinking a Pepsi and eating a chocolate chip cookie. Monday…I’ll start Monday.)

    How:

    1. Create a routine that clicks with me and takes some of the need for will power away.

    2. Move my body every day.

    3. Early to bed, early to rise.

    4. Write goals/visualizations every day.

    5. Meditate and pray daily.

    6. Eat clean foods that nourish my body 90% of the time.

  • Grow a life giving, peaceful home…full of joy, love, and empathy.

    How:

    1. Continue to learn and grow in becoming a more peaceful parent.

    2. Create new sustainable rituals and habits to grow connection and trust in each other and allows each of us to thrive.

    3. Have a fun, love filled vacation and other adventures.

    4. Only allow things into our home and our life that matches our “personal style” (more on this later) and get rid of the clutter.

    5. Grow a successful garden.

    6. Love my little family well daily and remember “I get to”.

  • Grow a love filled business to (insert double income) and show my people (by the way…you are my people) how absolutely loved they are.

    How:

    1. Create a VIP group.

    2. Say yes and just do the things I feel pulled to over and over again.

    3. Begin mentoring and create resources that will serve.

    4. 72 shoots this year.

    5. Create sustainable marketing plan.

    6. Automate and streamline workflow.

    7. Stay up to date with finances.

    8. Create a routine.

    9. Hire out editing.

    10. Finish up the Blueprint and TPL ( I believe strongly in constantly growing and both of these have been a huge asset to me…I just need to finish them :)).

  • Love Bret well.

    How:

    1. Date nights.

    2. 1 trip together

    3. Join each other in personal development.

    4. Big kiss and hug when he gets home from work.

It all looks like so much when I type it out like that, but it’s all really do-able and most are about creating habits. No matter what…each goal has to be filled with so much grace and love. It’s not about perfection. It’s about the journey. It’s about letting go of the fear and moving forward. Knowing that this is what I’m meant for…being flexible in the how…and working hard to move towards the goal…no matter how slowly I get there.

lifestyle newborn session in kentucky

Y’all, prepare yourselves. You may have baby fever after this post. I walked away from this newborn session wanting to have about ten more babies (then I remembered how wonderfully exhausting and hard it is and thought…”hm…maybe just one more”). N is just so sweet and the whole family made it all look oh so easy. Momma Meredith is a dear friend and extremely talented photographer near Ashland, KY (Meredith Dickens Photography). It is always an incredible honor to be asked to photograph a family during such a precious time. I have to admit being asked to photograph a super talented photographer’s family, during such a precious time, just ups things a bit. Especially when I know how talented this momma is with newborns. One of the joys of working with photographers is that they are super picky when choosing who will photograph their family and you know they have chosen you to do the style of photography YOU are good at. And Meredith had already photographed sweet N all by herself, so I knew I got to focus on those beautiful connections I love so much (I may have snuck in a couple pictures of N too ;)). Meredith also has a super talented videographer as a best friend, so she came along and made the sweetest little video of our session (Alyson Biggs Films). So, basically, it was just a big playdate for us photographer/videographer mommas.

One of the things I loved about Meredith’s session is that we did it when N was a bit older than my typical newborn sessions. While I wouldn’t suggest this age for the sleepy curled up pictures of baby alone, a month or older is wonderful for family pictures and more interactive pictures. I remember before I became a momma I stuck to the hard and fast rule of newborn sessions always before 14 days. During that time I was also doing more of the sleepy curled up, nakey, pictures. After I became a momma I realized how crazy that first couple weeks actually is and how insanely special it was that I was allowed into so many homes during that time. I began to change my tune to “under 14 days or whenever you are ready for me”. Every stage is beautiful. There is often an awkward period between 2 and 4 weeks, so it may be wise to avoid that time, but other than that, let’s just do it when you’re ready for me. No matter what, remember, we always take our time with newborns. No rush. All the breaks we need and all the snuggles. I want every single session to be a celebration of your family and that is what it shall be.

Okay…I mean…just try not to get baby fever…

Go baby fever yet? :) Also, did you see that baby girls nursery?!

So much love my sweet friends,

Cilla
