summer session & schedule update

central ky family photography

Hi, friend! How are you? I mean…sometimes I feel like I’m talking to myself when all I really want to do is sit down across from you on a couch (wine or coffee or hot chocolate optional) and chat about your day…your life..like really how you’re doing. I mean I would truly love it if you told me how you’re doing. Not the polite conversation answer either. HOW are you doing? What is bringing you life right now?

Until then, here is just a little update on sessions right now. Did I tell you that summer is my absolute favorite time to shoot? Fall gets all the glory because of it’s beautiful colors and being just before the holidays. But summer is where it’s at. You can totally use images of you in shorts and short sleeves on a Christmas card. I PROMISE! I have…you know…when I actually get cards ordered and sometimes in the mail. Summer is all fun to me. I mean…sure…I sweat like I’m at the gates of hell, but y’all look good and we have a ton of fun…that’s all that matters.

SIGNATURE SESSIONS

I recommend scheduling your session as soon as you can so we have your spot reserved.
Signature Sessions are by far the most popular session (and probably my favorite) and are what most have experienced over the years. We take our time and usually enjoy a bit of your home and a bit of outside or another location. We can really linger a bit and I can truly capture what your family's love looks like.

The imperfection of it and that light make my heart just melt into a big ol mess of joy. I have ONE beach session left (the last week of june or first week of july) and I also offer day in the life travel sessions any time of year! :) Just sayin…in case you want me to come with you on vacation…that can be arranged.

Please, if the images you see make you feel and you would love images like this for your family, let’s reserve your session. Click HERE to get your love filled session reserved today.

seeing the beautiful

family lifestyle photography

I have a secret…most sessions have a little bit of chaos to them. You think it’s just your family, but it’s not. It’s all of our families. There’s just a touch of wild there. Some more, some less, but almost always at least a little. And maybe not the biggest secret…I love it. I tell you it’s okay. I tell you I actually love the wild. But I see it in your eyes…you don’t believe me. You’re not sure how we could’ve gotten one good image in that whole bunch. You’re now counting down the moments until those wild babies of yours are asleep so you can remember just how lovely they are…or you are considering possibly giving them up. You are worn out. It was fun…it was wild…were there even any snuggles in there…you are now ready to collapse into your comfy bed.

Do you see how much beauty is in there? I do. I see you and I want you to see you. That every day chaos that comes with life is just as beautiful as those precious snuggles you get. Trust me, I’m a momma too, I know how good those snuggles feel. But, one day, hopefully long from now, it’ll all be gone and traded for something different…possibly a new kind of wonderful. You may long for the days of the chaos. It doesn’t make them any easier now, but there’s a sweetness there that I want you to be able to feel and I am certain you will feel twenty years from now. I want to capture what you look like…what your kiddos look like…right now, but more than anything, I want to capture what your love and your life FEEL like right now.

So, I say, let them be wild. Trust me. Trust them. It’s hard not to fuss at them when you know you want everyone smiling and happy and you’re just not sure if I’m going to capture anything from this. But, I am. Most of the images you see from me came from a little bit of chaos and a whole hell of a lot of love. Give the kiddos what they want, love…understanding…play…your calm(ish) in the midst of it all. Trust me…look how beautiful it is…

Oh, sweet friend, if you connect to any of this, if you want to capture and hold onto the beautiful in all your chaos, I would love to do a session with you. There are still summer spots left that my heart wants to fill with your family. I want to help you tell your love story for generations to come. Please stop waiting for everything to be calm or everything to be perfect. Summer is the absolute perfect time no matter what stage of life you’re in. So much love,

Cilla

Oh my goodness…I didn’t think I could love anything more than their newborn session, but now I’m in love with this one…so there’s that :) 6-10 months is one of my most favorite to photograph. This is when their little personalities begin to really shine through and they usually have a little chunk on them by then…which I LOVE.

My goal for your session is to always show the beauty in this stage of life. To take the pressure off, I assure you that if we need to we will redo it or do a smaller session to capture what we weren’t able to before. Because, ya know what, little ones have off days. I swear when they know I’m coming over they decide they won’t nap that day. I can’t tell you how many people have shared that their little one usually naps, but not on that day. The thing is, usually we are able to have a successful photo session even if it doesn’t feel like it. Sweet N was just off this day. He hadn’t had his usual amount of nap time and was teething like crazy. So, we did the session and decided I would come back for a little mini session to capture anything we missed. But oh my goodness…did we ever get so many beautiful images from the first session and the second one was just icing on the cake. You’ll see images from both sessions in this blog post :)

Seriously…my heart just smiles so big when I see this sweet family and the way they love each other. THIS is grumpy N. He’s just such a happy baby! And he is loved so incredibly well. I’m so thankful to watch him grow and cannot wait to see what the coming years bring for him.

We started with momma waking him and seeing the joy on his face as we walked into the room. There may have been a mix of pure confusion as she’s not usually joined by a lady with a camera in front of her face. Then from there it was just doing all the normal things. Getting dressed, playing in their room, some truly yummy lunch (seriously…I’m trying to convince them to do a baby food book), bath time, nursing, and night night again (since he didn’t get his first nap all out). Y’all, this is it what lifestyle photography is all about. Showing your love, the realness of it, the every day of it. All those little things that you don’t want to forget. It all passes way too quickly. I want to hold onto every single bit of it and I want that for you too.

So much love,

Cilla

in home lifestyle newborn session in lexington ky

One of my most favorite newborn session ever. And I’ve loved a lot of newborn sessions. The fact that parents allow me into their home during the first month of their baby’s life, when they are all just figuring it out, simply amazes me and leaves me feeling overwhelming honor and gratitude. I didn’t realize just how special and precious it was until I became a momma myself. The first month of Steff’s life went by so slowly and yet felt like a blur. I mean…parents let me into their home during one of the most…trying…and yet beautiful…times of their lives…and let me photograph them…and somehow seem like they are actually pulling off this parenting thing in a somewhat graceful manner. Me…my boobs were always out and I sat in a chair with Steff in one hand and rice krispy treats in the other and cried half the time. What a wonderfully, beautifully, exhausting time it was.

This family though…I felt at ease as soon as I walked in. I knew their love story…met in a restaurant. Fell in love. Married within six months. The people I saw in front me made each other laugh…a lot. And were so loving with each other. They also made me laugh…a lot. I knew when I walked in, saw their home, fell so comfortable with them, and was already laughing from the start, that this would be a favorite session. A clear sign that I’ve made a new friend is when we can laugh with and at each other in a loving way…and that we did. Making life long friends that I truly connect with on a heart level, is one of the best parts of being a photographer. It’s why I know I am where I’m suppose to be. Newborn sessions are always longer and always wear me out. While I was certainly tired after, I still felt rejuvenated and full of so much love and joy. Momma A said she wanted to capture their lives just as they were in that moment. That we did. Y’all…THIS is a lifestyle newborn session and THIS is what I strive for each and every time these days.

My most favorite part of the session was quietly watching as momma A snuggled her new baby, soaked it all in, and began to cry tears of gratitude. That’s what I want for each and every person in front of my camera. I want every session to be a time fo gratitude and love and joy.

Just a little sneak peek at our most recent session together! Look at sweet N! Psst…this session is all ready to go for it’s blog post too! Be watching for it this week as well :)
